CHURCH OF GOD BTCI
An Historical Review
The Genesis of Church of God in The Bahamas

The Bahamas became the first foreign mission field for the Church of God. By 1909 the spirit of holiness Pentecostal revival had reached the State of Florida the nearest mainland State to the Bahamas Islands. A Bahamian couple Edmond S. Barr and Rebecca Barr living in Florida, were converted, filled with the Holy Ghost and shortly thereafter felt a burning desire to return to the Bahamas to share their new found Pentecostal experience. They became acquainted with Reverend and Mrs. R. M. Evans who shared the Barr’s vision and played a pivotal role in securing the funding necessary for Edmond and Rebecca Barr to return home with the fresh Pentecostal message of salvation. Reverend and Mrs. Evans joined The Barrs in the Bahamas the following year (1910) and officially established the Church of God Missions in these Islands. In 2009/2010 we celebrate the centennial of Church of God and World Missions.
